Perhaps the biggest change in how businesses operate these days is in PR - or public relations. Whereas before a corporation would advertise in printed media like magazines, newspapers, and industry journals, these days we have the internet. And so this too has influenced how organizations perform PR. Now that blogging has become popular, suddenly we’re reading casual updates straight from the head chiefs rather than the normal polite, conventional editorials commonly located in their monthly publication. Also we’re getting more updates from firms too, as websites are constantly updated. Corporations are also utilizing microblogging sites like Twitter.

Also the net has made communication a lot less passive and a lot more proactive. With this activity, we understand so much more about target demographics because of their “footprint” they make with their actions. Therefore it’s essential that a corporation can react to the responses left by their visitors and frame their messages based on these responses.

With such dramatic changes, does that mean corporations have more opportunity to control how the market views them? For sure it does! Companies are now setting aside evermore time on public relations, since a lot more new “public meeting places” have become available with new technologies. With that added control however, there is the increased chance to make faults too, and so we are of the opinion that it is better to use a PR organization first. There is much to learn from them. For instance, how do they utilize the internet? They have acquired experience in knowing what is successful, and what doesn’t work. They can promptly identify the areas you need to improve upon and improve your strengths in terms of your relationship with the public.
